Bernard Sanford Walker, Sr., 94, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 of causes incident to Alzheimers Disease. He was born 27 July 1910 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the eldest of Joseph Sanford and Helen Augusta Smith Walker's six sons. From his earliest days he was a devoted son and exemplary big brother. He lived most of his young life in Pleasant Grove and American Fork, and cherished his memories of good friends and good times there. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1934, after which he launched his business career in Washington, D.C. and Denver, CO. It was while he was living in Denver that he met and married Wanda Arrowsmith. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on 17 May 1937. To their union was born eight children, 54 grandchildren and - to date 111 great-grandchildren. This posterity was Bud's greatest treasure and most profound joy. Following Wanda's death in 1982, he met and married Lou Jean Freestone Ure, and together they have enjoyed more than 20 years of loving companionship. After his family, Bud's greatest satisfaction came through his service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a sealer in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples for 19 years, a member of the Sunday School General Board, a bishop and as the best Gospel Doctrine teacher in the history of the Church. He and Jean also served a full-time mission in the Chicago Illinois Temple. His professional life focused on the development and management of life and health insurance companies and agencies in Colorado, Washington, Arizona and Utah. He was a tireless and effective teacher, trainer and manager, and was beloved by all with whom he associated. Bud is survived by his wife, Jean, of Centerville; children: Helen Jo (Clive) Murphy of Glendora, CA; Bonnie Jean Walker of Provo, UT.; Richard A. (Judy) Walker of San Dimas, CA; Robert M. (Kristen) Walker of Mesa, AZ; Wanda Lynne (Ronald) Funk of American Fork, UT; Kathy (Michael) Rawson of Salem, UT; Joseph (Anita) Walker of American Fork, UT; brother, Sanford (Elma) Walker of Farmington, UT; step-sons: Robert (Vickie) Ure, Paul (Aleen) Ure, Dale Ure, David (Mae) Ure; John (Cathy) Ure; Kent (JoLyn) Ure, and James (Tami) Ure; 45 step-grandchildren and 28 step-great-grandchildren. He was doubtless welcomed to the other side by his wife, Wanda; his daughter, Jean Ellen; his son, Bernard Jr. and son-in-law, Jay Hyer; his parents; and brothers, David, Sam, Max, and Vance each of whom preceded him in death. Funeral services held Tues., August 17, 2004 at the Centerville Park Meadow LDS Chapel, 950 N. Main. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 8/15/2004.
