James was the husband of Doris Virgina Odor. He was the son of George Lee Cude and Caroline Berry. He was the grandson of George Travis Cude and Sarah Ferguson. He was the great-grandson of Timothy Wright Cude and Serena Johnson. He was the great-great-grandson of William Arthur Cude, Sr., and Darcus Jones. He was the great-great-great-grandson of Timothy Cude and Lydia Horner.
