Roger D. Taylor, 81, of Grand Island, NE., died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Wedgewood Care Center, Grand Island, NE. Roger was born June 1, 1931, Milford, NE., to Otto and Nellie (Bridges) Taylor. Survivors are: wife, Sandra ‘Sandy' Taylor; daughters, Sue Taylor and special friend, Dick Schwieger of Grand Island, NE. and Karen Johnson and her husband, Ray of Ravenna, NE.; grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor of Lincoln, NE. and Seth, Ryan, Kaia and Hanna Johnson of Ravenna, NE. Roger was preceded in death by: parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Opal Taylor. Roger grew up in Callaway, NE. attending school and graduating from Callaway (NE.) High School, Class of 1949. He furthered his schooling at the School of Electronics in Chicago. Roger entered the United States Army on October 4, 1951 and was honorably discharged October 6, 1953. He was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Liles, in Callaway, NE. on August 16, 1959. Roger owned and operated Taylor's TV and Appliance in Callaway, NE. The couple moved to Hastings, NE. in 1963 where Roger was employed by Roger's Inc. The family moved to Grand Island, NE. in 1966 when Roger began working for Xerox Corporation. He worked for Xerox from 1966 to 1982. He later worked at Modern Methods and Dillards Dept. Store, retiring in 1993. Roger was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Elks Club. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially football and baseball and was an avid Husker fan. Roger enjoyed the horse races at Fonner Park. Roger was happiest spending time with family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Inurnment of ashes was in the Grand Island City Cemetery, Grand Island, NE.
