Funeral service for Joseph Vaclav Vidlak, 86, retired Abie area farmer, was held Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Abie. The Rev. Stanley Schieffer officiated at the 10 a.m., Mass of the Resurrection. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were James Sklenar, Emil Semrad, Emil Walla, Harry Washburn, Milo Hajak and Leonard Pernicek. Joseph Vidlak, son of Frank and Katherine Hrbacek Vidlak, was born March 18, 1892 in Butler County. He attended School Dist. 53 in Butler County. He married Christina M. Sobotka on Sept. 16, 1919. They farmed the Vidlak farm in the Abie area until his retirement in 1952, except for several years when they lived in Fremont where he was employed by the railroad. He died at Schuyler Senior Citizens Home Sept. 1 where he had been a resident since Feb., 1971. He is preceded in death by his wife Christina, on March 26, 1978. Survivors are a daughter, Mildred, Mrs. Jerry Pavel of Linwood, a granddaughter, Jacqueline, Mrs. Dwain May of Abie, two sisters, Mrs. Anton (Josephine) Viglicky, North Bend and Stazie Hajek, Schuyler, and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother Frank and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Sloup, Mrs. Mary Jakub and Mrs. Elsie Srb.
