Bio

Fargo, ND, formerly of Omaha, NE, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. Virginia Marsh was born on May 5, 1922 to Ray and Teresa (Hughes) Marsh in Omaha. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Mercy High School. She worked for Omaha Power Company where she would become Office Manager. She worked for Omaha Power until she married Philip Shonka on June 12, 1961 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Omaha. The couple resided in Carter Lake, IA, where Philip built houses and worked for the United States Post Office while Virginia took care of their home. After retirement they lived in Omaha. Philip passed away on April 10, 1992. After Phillip's death Virginia moved to Fargo to live at Bethany Retirement Living, where she resided until the time of her death. Virginia loved to travel. She also liked to bowl and play cards with friends. Virginia and Phillip were very active in the church and volunteered many hours at Sacred Heart Church in Omaha. She was a big sports fan and enjoyed following the Chicago White Sox and Nebraska Cornhuskers. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Marsh, Stillwater, MN; niece, Cathy (David) MacKenzie, Stillwater; nephew, John (Barbara) Marsh, Fargo; niece, Joan (Mike) Sager, San Carlos, CA; nephew, Larry Marsh, Stillwater; nephew-in-law, Charles Dahl, St. Louis Park, MN; and many Marsh and Shonka great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; her parents; 1 brother, Harold; and niece, Mary Dahl. Wake Service Monday 7pm, West Center Chapel. SERVICES Tuesday 9:30am, West Center Chapel to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10am. Interment, Calvary.
