Funeral services for Patricia "Pat" Wheeler, 76, of Clovis will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 23, 2012, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Dick Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Keith Wheeler, Kevin Wheeler, Kyle Wheeler, Kody Vigil, Chris Cantrell, and Amanda Kimbrel serving as pallbearers. Patricia Wheeler, known to close family and friends as "Pat", was born September 16, 1935, in Carrollton, MO, and died June 19, 2012, in Clovis after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Wheeler grew up in Springfield, MO. On October 14, 1952 in Breckenridge, MO, she was married to Virgil Wheeler. Her husband worked for the AT&SF Railroad, and consequently, they moved several times. In the mid 1960's, they moved to Las Vegas, NM, where they lived for a number of years. While living there, she oversaw their farming and ranching operation. They raise cattle as well as Arabian horses. She was a longtime member of the American Arabian Horse Association. In 1998, they moved to Portales. For as long as health would permit, they continued to ranch and farm on a small scale. Mrs. Wheeler was very patriotic. She was very generous in her giving to various political causes, as well as to any worthwhile cause that she identified with. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Sheryll Wheeler of Thief River Falls, MN, Keith and Cheryl Wheeler of Gardner, KS, and Kyle and Betsy Wheeler of Sapello, NM; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and Chris Cantrell of Fort Worth, TX, Kris Vigil of Clovis, and Kelen and Dale Kimbrel of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; an infant daughter, Elizabeth Kay Wheeler, and by her beloved husband, Virgil, who died December 5, 2004, after more than 52 years of marriage.
