Bio

Born in Omaha, NE to B. J. and Josephine (Ponec) Buras. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1945 he served in the U. S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1951. He married Peggy Dene Fulton on May 5, 1954 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Omaha. He retired in 2006 from Interstate Electric Company in Council Bluffs where he handled credit/collections for 30 years. In 1952 he became an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, serving 3 Omaha parish churches for over 55 years. Preceded in death by both parents; brother-in-law, Barty Fulton; sister-in-law, Bobbie (Fulton) Nelsen. Survived by wife of 58 years, Peggy; children and spouses: David Buras (Susan) of Gilbert, AZ, Richard Buras, Jr., Phillip Buras, Gerald Buras (Johanna Chantry-Buras), Margaret Wakefield (Michael), all of Omaha; grandchildren: Timothy and Nicholas Wakefield, Audra, Jocelyn and Jeriann Buras; great-grandchild, Sean Michael Wakefield; sisters, Rose Marie McCoubrey (Bill) and Mary Ann Lane, both of Omaha; mother-in-law, Barbara E. Fulton of North Platte, NE; brother-in-law, Don Nelsen of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Meady Fulton of Omaha, Mary (Fulton) Zarkowski of North Platte, NE; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials to Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home. VISITATION begins Friday, 5pm, with WAKE SERVICE to follow at 7pm at the mortuary. SERVICES Saturday, 9:30am from the mortuary to St. Adalbert Catholic Church for MASS at 10am. Interment, St. John Cemetery with military rites.
