Provo Boy, 11, Succumbs To Gun Wound Tribune Leased Wire PROVO, Dec. 19 — Billie Adams, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo Adams, 530 N. 6th West, died Friday at 11:40 p.m. in a Provo hospital of a rifle wound accidentally inflicted earlier in the day by his brother, Jimmie , 15, while the two boys were playing with the weapon in the family home during their lunch hour. The child previously had undergone surgery in an effort to save his life after lying in "critical" condition in the Provo hospital since shortly after the accident occurred at 12:10 p.m. Friday. Provo police said the boy was wounded when the large-caliber gun in the hands of his brother Jimmie, 15, discharged as the two boys were playing. Jimmie told officers that he didn't think the gun was loaded. The accident occurred at 12:10 p.m. when the boys were home from school preparing lunch, and the parents were at work. Both boys had been playing with a wooden gun, pointing it around and pretending to shoot, when they abandoned it in favor of a real gun, a 30-40 Krag. Jimmie picked it up and fired it just as Billie moved in its range. Jimmie told officers that he wasn't pointing the gun at Billie. THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, Saturday, December 20, 1947
