Bio

Gordon Klemgard, 89, a retired farmer, businessman, and civil leader in the Pullman area, died Monday at Pullman Nursing Home where he had been residing for three years. He had suffered a stroke before moving into the rest home. Klemgard was a life-long resident of Pullman area and the founder of the Pullman Tractor and Implement Co. and Klemgard Pea Processing Co. He retired from those businesses in 1955 but continued farming until ill health forced him to give it up. He was born January 28, 1893, at Pullman to pioneers James and Nora Klemgard. He was married to Mabel Weaver May 30, 1926, at Seattle, and they settled on a farm nine miles southwest of Pullman. She died July 10, 1976. He was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church, Ewartsville Grange, Whitman lodge of the Masons, the Pullman Odd Fellows and the Moscow Elks lodges. Survivors include a daughter, Jay Gembala of Pullman, two grandchildren, James G. Clark of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Carol L. Davies of Bellevue, Wash., and two great-granddaughters. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Simpson United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Pullman Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Whitman lodge of the Masons officiating.
