Bio
Book: Page 85 of "The Edgewood Story" published in 1978 states: "Some of the other families represented in the cemetery with known descendants in the community today are J. H. and Martha York. He was born in Mississippi and his wife was born in Alabama. They came to Edgewood from Mississippi before 1870, and J. H. York was a cotton weigher owning a public cotton yard in Edgewood." The above book on page 353 states the following: "On 6/25/1885, while on their way from Mississippi, James Homer and Martha Jane Eaton York stopped in Carthage, Texas, for the birth of their daughter, Mattie Mae. They continued on the next day to settle in Edgewood. Mattie Mae became Mrs. John Pettigrew." Father: Eaton Hammonds York (1821-1868). Mother: Jerusha S.
