Bessie Dauel, 94, of Malmo died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Butler County Healthcare Center in David City. She was born April 21, 1913, in Rescue to Joseph. D. and Rosalie (Kliment) Haba. She attended school at District 73 in Rescue. She married William C. Dauel on Aug. 24, 1936, in Ithaca. They farmed four miles east of Prague and following the death of her husband, Bessie moved to Malmo. She helped on the farm, did home care for the elderly and was a volunteer in the Veterans Hospital Auxiliary in Lincoln for man years. She was a member of St. John?s Evangelical Lutheran Church east of Prague until the church was closed. Survivors include: two daughters, Rosalie (and husband, Jerome) Frana of Colon and Katherine Stanek of David City; two sons, William (and wife, Vicki) Dauel of Malmo and Eugene (and wife, wife) Debra of Cedar Bluffs; a sister, Agnes Kucera of David City; a brother, William Elmer Haba (and special friend, Margaret) Hladky of David City; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers-in-law. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kucera-Kracl Funeral Home in Prague with Jerry L. Kracl officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, rural Malmo. A memorial has been established to Union Cemetery.
