GM3 US COAST GUARD WORLD WAR II ——————————————- PRAGUE—The funeral for John L. Sedlacek, 79, of rural Prague will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague. John died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at David Place in David City. He was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Raymond. John attended Hillside School in rural Lancaster County and graduated from Raymond High School in 1940. He was active in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. He entered active duty Sept. 21, 1942, and patrolled the East Coast. He was honorably discharged March 29, 1946. John never married. Following military service, he farmed in the Prague area until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague and a member of KD (Catholic Workman) Branch 13 of Prague. Survivors include three brothers, Ignac (and wife, Fidelis) Sedlacek of Prague, Raymond (and wife, Eva) Sedlacek of Malmo and Robert Sedlacek of Cedar Bluffs; and a sister-in-law, Mayme Sedlacek of Prague. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters and brothers-in-law. The Rev. Ronald Homes will officiate Saturday's service. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and after 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church. A Catholic Workman and parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Prague with military rites provided by American Legion Post 254 of Prague.
