Janeral "Jan" E. Harris, 81, of 620 E. Groff, died Friday, Nov. 13, at the Fullerton Manor Care Home in Fullerton. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or family's choice. Mr. Harris was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Hall County, to General and Minnie (Maynard) Harris. He began his education in rural Hall County schools and completed his education in Grand Island Public Schools. He married Clara Kowalski on Feb. 14, 1930, in Grand Island. He worked in the tired business for Jak's Tire Co. for many years. Later, he joined Mayhew Signs, before joining the Grand Island Tire Co. He was a member of the Grand Island City Council for 12 years, serving as president for eight years in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He played the banjo in several polka bands and at a various square dances. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie Number 378 and was a Golden Eagle. He also was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society. He was survived by his wife, Clara of Grand Island; one son, Janeral "Jay" Harris of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Alladien (Donald) Petty of Gainsville, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin sons and five brothers.
