Phyllis Elaine (Hicks) Brtek, daughter of John and Vernie (Reed) Hicks, was born December 16, 1940 in Nehawka, NE. Phyllis died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at her home in Norfolk, NE. Phyllis attended and graduated from Malmo High School in 1958. On September 1, 1959, she was married to Louis T. Brtek at St. John's Catholic Church in Prague, NE. The couple was blessed with four children: Mike, Michelle, Mark, and Mary. Lou and Phyllis lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked for Northern Natural Gas Company. The family then moved to Seward where Phyllis was a homemaker. They settled in Norfolk, NE. in 1967, where Lou and Phyllis owned and operated Lou's Thrifty-Way grocery store since 1972. Phyllis was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Norfolk, NE. and the Altar Society. Phyllis survivors are: husband of over 52 years, Lou Brtek of Norfolk, NE.; son, Mike (Nancy) Brtek of Norfolk, NE. and their children, Matthew, Nathan, Kerstin, and Justin; daughter, Michelle (Donald) Zwiener of Norfolk, NE. and their children, Sara and Brandon; son, Mark (Tara) Brtek of Norfolk, NE. and their children, Chandler and Logan; and daughter, Mary (Scott) Kiker of Holtville, AL., and their son, Will. Phyllis was preceded in death by: parents, John and Vernie Hicks; and brother, Bill Hicks. Burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, NE.
