Bio
The inscription on this stone reads "... Apolonija manželka Constantina ..." ('... Apolonia, wife of Constantin ...'). Apolonija Lichnovsky was born in Kunčice (now in the Czech Republic) and married Konstantin (Constantin) Chovanec from Trojanovice (now in the Czech Republic). Story below is from our family history books that we were all given 30 years or more ago at a family reunion. My relation is Agnes Chovanec married Ian Malek, and my mother is a Malek down that tree. Konstantin Chovanec and other immigrants arrived from Moravia and settled into Texas. He was from Trojanovic, near Frenstat. They traveled on September, 1856 by wagon from their various communities and met at Bohumine, Czechoslovakia, known then as Moravia, where they all boarded a train for Bremen in Germany. A small boat took them by river to Bremenhaven where they embarked on a large sail ship. It was 2 levels and about 100' long. The first night on the ocean they experienced a violent storm. Most everyone on the boat experienced severe seasickness. One child was born, a girl, to Konstantin and his wife while sailing the Atlantic Ocean. She was named after the ship they were on named Elizabeth. Upon arrival they first settled in Dubina, Texas and then moved to Fayetteville, Texas where many other Czech families already lived.
