Bio

Richard passed away May 20, 2012, with his family by his side at the family home. He was the third child of Harry Arthur Liles (1903-1963) and Georgia Elliott Winkelman (1908-1983). Born in Boise at the close of the Depression Era, he enjoyed the carefree, neighborly atmosphere of the pre-war years. Because his family moved frequently, he attended many local elementary schools. During WWII his family moved to California briefly where his father worked in the shipyards. Back in Boise he rejoined his numerous cousins, families and friends. He delivered the Idaho Statesman for several years before going to work for Main and 5th Grocery. After graduating from Boise High School in 1954 he and friends joined the military service. He spent three years traveling in the military to California, Maryland and Germany. In 1957 in Boise he met Bonnie Anderson whom he promptly married. They lived briefly in Boise, then back in the military, the Air Force this time. In the military he worked in Finance and Accounting which he had trained for at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. They lived in Selma, Alabama, Wichita Falls, Texas, Paris, and France before returning to Boise in 1962. While touring with the Air Force they were blessed with Jay Kai born in Selma, and Lisa Lynn born in Paris, not to leave out Boise, in 1964 Chris Ann was born. After the military service Richard worked for the Red Steer Drive Inn's as a manager and then an area supervisor. Wanting to be owners, Bonnie and Richard leased The Smoke Inn Drive Inn in 1967, the rest is history, 45 years of serving food to excellent customers, good friends, and new friends. Richard loved to spend time at Cascade with fishing pole in hand or just soaking up the sun. Their cruise trip to Alaska was among his most enjoyed. He was a dedicated, disciplined and loving father to his children and grandchildren. He supported and encouraged Bonnie in her many endeavors, baseball coach, artist and finally teacher. He encouraged his children to go the extra mile, look over the horizon and give to the inth degree. He was preceded by his father, mother, father-in-law, Carl L. Anderson (1912-2007), a brother-in-law Eugene Frank Ilett, James Bakkila several long time good friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is survived by: Bonnie Anderson Liles; children, Jay Kai, Lisa (Dom) Zamora, Chris (Drew) Lucurell; brother, Eugene (Debbie) Liles; sister, Joyce (James) Hancock; granddaughters; Lauren, Katie, Hailey, Erin, Celeste; and grt-grd son, Perrin, Justin and Stephen; mother-in-law, Evelyn Anderson; sister-in-law, Carolene Bakkila; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews. We bid a loving farewell and God speed to our husband, father, brother, Boss, Good Bud, classmate, friend, cousin, and grandfather. A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, with an Open House in celebration of his life following at 3:00 p.m. at Smoke Inn restaurant.
