Mervin Eugene Durham, 71, Lake Andes, died on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Marks Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Geddes. Prayer Service will be Monday, July 18, 2011, at 7 p.m. at St. Marks Catholic Church. Mervin Eugene Durham was born at home south of Geddes to Clarence and Lillian (Petrik) Durham. He attended country school and Geddes High School, graduating in 1959. He worked construction at Rapid City and Pierre returning to Geddes area to farm. He married Carol Jones on April 14, 1964, in Lake Andes. They farmed until buying the Drive-In-Theater and Bowling Alley in Lake Andes. He also was a janitor at Andes school. For a few years he was a Policeman for the city of Lake Andes. He also served on the city council for a few years. He worked part time as Deputy Sheriff for Charles Mix Co. before retiring because of health issues. He is survived by his wife Carol of Lake Andes; a son, Tom Durham and wife, Trish of Vermillion; two grandchildren, Paige and Bailey of Vermillion; sister Betty Bruner and husband, Ed, of Lake Andes; two brothers, Clarence (Buzz) Durham and wife, Donna of Lake Andes, Richard Durham; and friend Billie Thompson, of Geddes; brother-in-law, Jerry Kietzmann of Yankton; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Durham; in-laws, Paul and Helen Kietzmann; sister, Margaret Varilek and husband Elvern. Courtesy Mitchell Republic
