SOURCE: Death Certificate: ''''''''''''''''''''''''' The Bismarck Tribune 10/6/2004. Orvan W. Scott Orvan W. Scott, 76, Forsyth, MT., passed away on Oct. 4, 2004, at a Billings, MT., care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, Forsyth. Burial was in the family lot in Forsyth Cemetery, Forsyth, MT. Orvan was born May 7, 1928, in Edgeley, N.D., the son of Walter and Rose Pope Scott. He grew up and was educated in the Edgeley area, graduating from High School in 1946. Later he completed a correspondence course in business administration. Following his graduation, Orvan received his "obscene" letter from Harry Truman regarding his draft status. On Sept. 29, 1950, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving his first three weeks at Fort Jackson, S.C. Orvan was a member of the 45th (Thunderbirds) Division and served as a military policeman. In December 1951, Orvan was stationed in Korea. During his military service, Orvan climbed through the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant in July 1952. He was honorably discharged from the Army at Camp McCoy, WS., August 15, 1952. On May 24, 1973, Orvan was united in marriage to Dolores Bender Engesser in Bismarck, N.D. To this union their son Randy Wayne was born. On June 1, 1973, Orvan and his family relocated to Forsyth, where he began his career at Range Telephone Co-Op, which followed his 17-year stint with the Beck Telephone Co-Op in Steele, N.D. On June 30, 1991, Orvan retired from Range Telephone and continued to reside in Forsyth until the time of his death. he enjoyed studying genealogy, wood working and gardening as well as being a member of the American Legion and VFW. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. Orvan is survived by his wife of 31 years, Delores, his mother Rose of the Prince of Peace Nursing Home, Ellendale, N.D., one son, Monte Scott of West Fargo, N.D., one daughter Vicki Lynn Scott of Grand Forks, N, D., three grandchildren, one stepson Russ W. Engesser of Billings, MT. one stepdaughter Lynne Marie Faltys (Gary) of West Point, NE., one step grandchild, fiver brothers, Arnold (Lorine) Scott of Hettinger, Milton Scott of Edgeley, N.D., Clinton (Laverne) of Jamestown, N.D., Clifford (Arlene) Scott of Bismarck, N.D., and Lyle (Joyce) Scott of Dickinson, N.D., as well as numerous nieces and nephews which include Sharon Donner of Forsyth, MT. He was preceded in death by his father Walter and his son Randy. Orvan had a dry sense of humor that will be remembered and will be missed by all. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
