Son of Andrew & Sophia (Czapla) Swertzic. ------------------------ Thanks to contributor #48796369; JOHN SWERTZIC DEAD AT AGE OF 69 John Swertzic, a resident of this community for fifty years, died at the family home on the island in Merrick county, five miles southeast of Silver Creek, at ten o'clock Saturday morning. Mr. Swertzic had been in failing health for the last several months, and became bedfast two weeks before his death. He was first ill with anemia, and later a liver complication developed. He was born June 24, 1870 in Pilsno, Poland, and came to this country when he was 18 years of age. He located first in Polk county where he procured work as a farm hand. Seven years later on Feb. 10, 1895, he took Miss Stella Dubas as his bride, and they established their home on the farm where he died. He bought a 160 acre farm there, and as years passed he added to his land holdings in that community. About 1919 he turned most of that farm land over to his sons and bought another farm seven miles southeast of Fullerton, where he took Mrs. Swertzic and the younger children in the family. Twelve years later they left that farm and moved to a farm three miles west of here. In 1937 he turned that place over to his son, John B. jr., and went back to the house on the original farm home. He was prominent in farm life in this community and was widely known and highly esteemed. When he lived in Nance county, he served for a 10-year period as a member of the board in school District 34. Surviving are his wife; five sons, Dominic and Charles of Fullerton, and John Jr., Alvin and Benny of Silver Creek; three daughters, Mrs. Sylvester Kusek of Loup City, Mrs. Frank Stanczyk of Osceola and Miss Martha at home; two brothers, Joe of Albion, and Charles, who before the war was residing at Pilsno, Poland; one half brother, Frank Worzel of Ord; a half sister, Mrs. George Koza of Fullerton, and sever grandchildren. One son Adolph who died June 5, 1929, preceded him in death. Funeral services which were largely attended, were held at the Krakow Church Tuesday morning, and were conducted by Fr. Solowiski assisted by Fr. Leaby of Genoa and Fr. Kunkel of Clarks. Burial was in the Krakow cemetery. Pallbearers were James Stanczyk, John Cuba, Joe Koza, Edward Jablonski, Joe Swertzic and Emanuel Wadas. A large number of relatives and friends from a distance were here to attend the funeral.
