Josie French Havens, 91, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 13, 2012. Services will be held at 1 p.m., May 16, at the Killeen Church of Christ, with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., May 15, at Harper Talasek Funeral Home of Killeen. She was born in Salado, Texas, to the late Gus and Sally French. She attended school in Prairie Dell and at Killeen's Avenue D School, graduating in 1939. She married Ira Lee (Pat) Havens on December 4, 1941 in Reno, Nevada and they had four children, three of whom survived to adulthood. Josie worked as a cook at East Ward Elementary and Avenue D Elementary Schools for 17 years. She loved gardening and along with her husband, took pride and joy in reaping the harvest of their hard, hot work providing delicious fresh fruits and vegetables for their family dinner table and for friends, neighbors, and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; a stillborn son; stepmother, Mamie French; sister, Ruby; and brothers, Charles, Claude, and Glen. Josie is survived by her daughters, Linda Walts, of Killeen, Jo Ellen Harbison and husband, Don, of Bishop, TX, and Connie Havens, of Killeen; and many other family members and friends. K9
