Bio

m. Juliette Barker, September 7, 1865, Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana. Ezekial J. Gant, after a serious illness extending over a period of three years passed away at his home in this place Monday night. His affliction was cirrhosis of the kidneys and a dropsical condition set in many months ago. He suffered much at times, then would rally again, only to relapse into a little worse condition than before. Death, though always sad to loved ones, came as a sweet relief from physical suffering, which however, he bore at all times with much patience. He was an old time resident of Thorntown and had a . He is survived by a widow and four sons, all grown to full estate. They are Curtis of Seneca, Woodard and Bud of this place, and Alva of Lebanon. Mr. Gant was in his 70th year. He was a union soldier of the War of the Rebellion, and through his life following his discharge from the service practiced as a pension attorney. He served continuously for many years as a Justice of the Peace for Sugar Creek township, and came to be known as the marrying Squire, so frequently were his services requested to perform the marriage ceremony. The funeral was held from the family residence yesterday afternoon, with religious services by Rev. J. B. Rutter and interment at Sugar Plain.
