Arnold Sembera, 91, of Marshall passed away May 8, 2012. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at Downs Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the National Cemetery in Dallas. Arnold Sembera was born June 12, 1920 in Brazos, Texas, the son of Frank and Agnes Sembera. He grew up in College Station, Texas, where he became a lifelong Aggie fan. Arnold sang the Aggie song often until the days preceding his death. He married Maxine Kimsey on October 21, 1946 in Ft. Worth, Texas. They were married 63 years until she preceded him in death in 2009. Arnold served in World War II in the United States Army, 757 Tank Battalion as Chief Warrant Officer from 1942 to 1945. The nickname "Chief" followed him for the rest of his life. He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church, formerly East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He worked as Meat Merchandising Manager for Safeway Stores in Dallas from 1946 to 1985. After retiring, he and Maxine were able to travel the world and attend army reunions every year. They moved to Marshall in 2009. Arnold is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bob Bryant of Marshall; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Lorraine Wilson, and his brothers, Alton Sembera and Thomas Sembera. Arnold is in Heaven because he believed the promise of Jesus in John 3:16, which he quoted often, "For God so love the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who-ever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life."
