Bio

Funeral services were held for A.J. "Jack" Gilleland, 79, of Walnut Springs on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 in the Lawson Memorial Chapel in Walnut Springs with the Rev. Brett MacNelly officiating. Gilleland, the son of the late Andrew Jesse and Mary Francis Garner Gilleland, was born on March 18, 1925, in the White Church area of Somervell County. He passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004, in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. Gilleland was united in marriage to Lorene C. Gosdin on April 8, 1944, in Glen Rose. He lived most of his live on the family farm and ranch south of Walnut Springs. He was a retired farmer/rancher and worked for many years for the Walnut Springs Independent School District. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Gilleland, on Oct. 3, 1991; a brother, W.D. "Dub" Gilleland, on March 23, 1992; and a sister, Mary Ruth Gilleland, on June 23, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Gilleland of Walnut Springs; sons, Mike Gilleland and wife, Paula, of Rainbow, Bob Gilleland and wife, Sharen, of Bryan, and Wayne Gilleland and wife, Sherry, of Corpus Christi; daughter-in-law, Helene Gilleland Liming of Dripping Springs; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Hankins of Glen Rose, Ann Daniel of Glen Rose, Janie Lawson of Burleson; brother, Jerry Gilleland of Plainview; and other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers were William Offutt, Ron Hankins, David Jones, Larry Gosdin, Gary Gosdin, and Jay Daniel. Interment was in the White Church Cemetery near Glen Rose under the arrangement of Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.
