ASHMORE - Kenneth Baker, 74, of Ashmore, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his home, with his daughter at his side. The funeral service honoring his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Caudill-King Funeral Home with Pastor Vera Duncanson officiating. Kenny's wish would be that everyone be casually dressed. Burial with military rites by Paul McVey V.F.W. Post 1592 will follow in Mound Cemetery, Charleston. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. performed by Ashmore A.F. & A.M. Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family or the Coles County Animal Shelter. Kenny was born August 4, 1937 in Moultrie County, Illinois, son of Fred and Merle (Fleming) Baker. He is survived by his daughter: Julie (Winnett) Hofmann and husband Mark of Ashmore; brothers: Harold Baker and Virgil Baker; sisters: Alice Hicks, to whom he was especially close, and Janiece Cox; and special sister-in-law, Rita Baker. Also survived by three special nephews: Jeff, Jessee, and Jacob Diltz; and one special niece: Krystal Pepperdine. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Art Baker, to whom Kenny was especially close, and Dwight Baker. Kenny was a retired laborer, working through Union Local 171. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Marines. He held memberships in the Casey Moose Lodge and the Ashmore Masonic Lodge.
