Well known farmer and dairy man of the White City community near Vernon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Wolverton lived in Olney from 1923-1953 and moved to Vernon on November 23rd of 1953 to live. Wolverton assumed management of a Vernon Creamery business which he and the late Harry Bettis established in 1945 and moved to Vernon. Wolverton was a past mayor of Olney, past president of the Olney Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Olney school board, on which he served 15 years, and a charter member and past president of the local Rotary Club. Since moving to Olney in 1923, the Wolverton's lived in Olney except for nine months in 1929 and 1930 when they lived in Corsicana. Wolverton came to Olney to work for Olney Oil and Refining Company, which was located just north of Olney and owned by O.T. Anderson and S.J. Marcel. In 1930, Wolverton became local consignee for Texaco gasoline and established a small refinery in Olney. He discontinued the refinery and sold the Texaco agency to Bill Emerson in 1945. Following World War II, he established and remained an inactive partner with Travis Edwards in Southland Sales Company until his death. Mr. and Mrs. Wolverton were active in affairs of the First Baptist Church. He was chairman of the building committee when additions were made to the main structure. Survived by two daughters - Mrs. Luther "Edith" Henderson, Mrs. Richard "Jean" Myrick.
