Bio

Onaga Herald February 5, 1976 Mr. Alpha E. Hayes, 95, a native of rural Onaga, died on January 30 at Community Hospital where he was admitted on January 27. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Tessendorf Mortuary with interment in Onaga Cemetery. Mr. Hayes was born October 9, 1880, on his father's homestead southwest of Onaga. He lived in California and Oklahoma, returning to Onaga in 1917 where farmed until his retirement. For the past 13 years, he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Robert Daily, in Spokane, Wash. He returned to Onaga in July 1975 and was a resident of Golden Acres Nursing Home. He was married to Cora Hathaway on November 9, 1903 at Sedan. She died in March 1962. He was also preceded in death by a son, Archie Hayes, in October 1973. Survivors include a son, Oliver Hayes of Cottonwood, Ariz.; his daughter, Mrs. Alunda Daily of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Orval Hayes of Braman, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Grover of Riverside, Calif.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
