Greenville (Texas) Evening Banner, Wed, 12 Jul 1944, page 8 W.D. Denney Dies In Local Hospital; Last Rites Today Last rites were observed this afternoon at 4 o'clock for W.D. Denney, 1807 King street, secretary of the Mutual Building and Loan Association, and prominent Greenville business man who succumbed at 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at a local hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for the past week. Services, held at the James-Peters Funeral Home Chapel, were conducted by Dr. John N. Rentfro, pastor of Wesley Methodist church. Interment followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Wolfe City. Pallbearers were Everett Babb. LeRoy Brigman. Ward Spot, Jess Morris, Charles Flenniken, Marvin Bush and Cecil Ward of Sulphur 8prings. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Board of Stewards of Wesley Methodist church. Native of County. A native of Hunt county, William Dudley Denney, was born on Dec. 17, 1888, at Wolfe City, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Denney, honored pioneer citizens of that section. He was reared and educated in the Wolfe City schools. Recognized for his leadership. Mr. Denney had for many years, been identified in business, social and religious life of the city. For more than 20 years he was employed in the office of the Greenville Mill and Elevator Company and was considered one of its most valuable and influential members in that organization. In 1937 he was named secretary and made a member of the board of directors of the Mutual Building and Loan Company and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death. Joined Methodist Church. Moving to Greenville when a young man, Mr. Denney placed his membership in Wesley Methodist church and for a number of years had been a member of the Board of Stewards of that church and served as treasurer of the board for several years. Friends who knew Dudley Denney intimately, praised him for his fine traits of character, his outstanding leadership, his loyalty and understanding and his devotion to family and friends. Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Eula Larkin, and two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Roberts, of Fort Worth and Mrs. Odell Jones, Dallas; his mother, Mrs. W.L Denney. Wolfe City; three grand children, Bobby Nell Roberts, Billy F. Roberts and Carlyn Sue Jones and one brother, D.E. Denney of Dallas.
