Bio

Ermaline Elizabeth Cook Studnicka (1921 - 2012) Ermaline Elizabeth Cook Studnicka, 90, passed on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at an Arlington hospital. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: Donations may be made to the City of Humphrey Rescue Unit, Humphrey, Neb. Ermaline was a lifelong resident of Humphrey, Neb. She moved to Texas two years ago to be close to her daughter, Rita; son-in-law, Austin; and grandkids, Aaron and Mary Elizabeth. She was the granddaughter of John Martin Cook and Elizabeth Korth. She was the granddaughter of John Bruckner and Theresa Uhidill. Her parents were Joseph Cook And Celia Bruckner. All were member of Humphrey St. Francis Church. One of her favorite memories was on how she got to school. Her friend would not pick her up in a car nor for a bus ride. Ermaline was picked up on a horse, on their way to their one-room school house, north of Cornlea, Neb. When she went to Humphrey St. Francis, she made A's in math. After her graduation, she did take the Civil Service exam. She was offered a job that would have paid $1,440 a year in Washington, D.C. She did not take the job. She chose to stay close to her family, friends and church. Ermaline had a friend named Lillian. Lillian dated Emil Studnicka from Clarkson, Neb. So Ermaline ended up dating Emil's brother, Adolph. Double-dating worked for both couples to marry. On the farm, she was the cook, washer, bookkeeper and veterinarian assistant. She drove the tractor or truck when needed for planting or harvest time. The work of a farmer's wife was never done. She enjoyed Lawrence Welk, baking cookies, playing cards, word search puzzles, western movies and polka music, especially when Adolph played. After moving to town, she discovered she had a green thumb for plants. Her hollyhocks thrived under her care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Celia Cook; her husband, Adolph Studnicka; her sister, Theresa Grotelueschen; and her son-in-law, Austin. Survivors: Daughter, Rita; grandchildren, Aaron and Mary Elizabeth; and brother-in-law, Emil Studnicka. She will also be missed by her families in Nebraska, Texas, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota, and especially by her faithful dog, Sophie. Published in Star-Telegram on April 28, 2012
