November, 1953. Relatives and friends of Melvin O. Dutton, 84, attended funeral services in his memory Thursday, November 12, 1953, at Frost & Son Funeral Home in Belle Fource. Interment was made at Spearfish Cemetery in a family plot shared with his first wife. Rev. L. A. Johnson officiated, assisted by the Oddfellow Lodge of Spearfish. Mr. Dutton, a resident of Perkins County since 1908, retired to Belle Fourche from his ranch in 1942. He was visiing his daughter, Mrs. Alice Sanger, in Sturgis when he was suddently taken ill. He was taken to the Sturgis Hospital, and died the following day, November 9, 1953. Melvin O. Dutton was born in Green Bay Township, Clarke County, Iowa on October 7, 1869. He married Martha Twombley on February 22, 1891 in Clarke County. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1940. He retired from the ranch to Belle Fource in 1942. He remarried December 10, 1944 to Mary J. Shepherd, and they made their home in Belle Fource. Melvin Dutton is survived by his wife Jennie, and five children: Hiram of Faith; Mrs. Laura Seymour of Whitewood; Harry of Sturgis; Marvin of Strool; Mrs. Alice Sanger of Sturgis; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grand-children, one brother Andis Steen of Mason City, Iowa.
