Horace Greeley (Pete) Flinn (March 30, 1903 - February 10, 1985) Horace G. Flinn, 81, of 2200 Terry Lane in Georgetown died February 10, 1985 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown with the Reverend Joe Fagg officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Georgetown. He was born March 30, 1903, in Catahoula Parrish, Louisiana to John W. and Sarah A. Mankin Flinn. He moved to Texas with his family shortly after his birth. He was married to Marowyn Hawthorne on June 3, 1937, in Anahuac, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown. He left Georgetown in 1912, and returned in 1972. After he retired from Humble Oil Company, he was a rancher in Giddings. He served as president of the Lee County Pecan Growers Association. He was a descendant from 19th century pioneers who settled in the Georgetown area. His great-great-grandfather, Isaac Williams, and great-grandfather, James B. Williams, settled in the Berry Creek area. His great-great-grandfather, Captain John Williams, commanded the Texas Rangers in San Saba. He was scalped by Indians in 1861 in San Saba. His great-grandfather, Samuel Mankin, and grandfather, Evan Mankin, both lived in the Mankin Crossing area. They were among the Georgetown citizens who in 1873, founded Texas University which is now Southwestern University. Another grandfather, Dr. John C. Flinn was the first physician to practice medicine in Hutto. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; a son, Horace G. Flinn, Jr. of Glastonbury, Connecticut; a daughter, Jean Rae Flinn of Kerrville; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church in Georgetown or the charity of one's choice.
