Funeral service for Herbert O'Kelley was at 10 a.m. Monday August 6, in Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Dr Bill Masters, pastor of First Christian Church. Casket bearers were all members of the American Legion Huff-Miner Post 14. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of E.M.Trout and Sons Funeral directors. O'Kelley died early Friday morning in Highland Nursing Home. A native of Missouri,he was born Sept.12,1893. He received his education in Aurora, MO,and attended the University of Missouri, where he studied law until the outbreak of World War I. O'Kelley saw action with the U.S. Army at St. Michael Forest, Meuse-Argonne offensive and in the Verdun sector of France. Following the war, he was employed by Magnolia Oil Co. in Shamrock, OK. He & his wife, the former Helen Woolford,(married April 4, 1918)came to Ponca City in 1932 & he worked as an independent service station operator for Phillips 66. He retired in 1959. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are his wife of the home,one son & two grandchildren. His parents & one son preceded him in death.
