John Earl Stunkard, 82, a retired aircraft maintenance mechanic, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2002 at a Waxahachie hospital. Services were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 13 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington. Burial followed at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. John Stunkard was born November 9, 1919 in Klondike, Texas. He retired in 1978 from LTV after 27 years of service. Mr. Stunkard attended Spring Creek Baptist Church. He was a decorated Veteran of WWII, having received two Bronze Stars. Mr. Stunkard was very active playing musical instruments and entertaining the nursing home residents and was an avid gardener. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elsie Stunkard; daughters, Earline Trammell of Grand Prairie, Frances Mitchell of Irving, Linda Mitchell of Comanche, and Shirley McClendon of Alvarado; sisters, Eddrie Preas of Fort Worth, and Evelyn Duncan and husband, Basil of San Diego, California; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
