Leon Ray departed this life on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, passing away at the age of sixty-nine years, six months, and twenty-five days. Following his death, funeral services were held in remembrance of a life that had been shaped by hard work, devotion to family, and the simple strength of enduring ties, and he was laid to rest with reverence at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He had been born on September 21, 1942, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of the late Lee Roy Ray and Earlene Pulley Ray. His boyhood days in rural Tennessee instilled in him an appreciation for both the land and the value of labor, which later guided him into his long career as a logger, a profession through which he supported his loved ones with steadfast diligence until his retirement. Leon's journey through life was marked by joys and sorrows, including the loss of his sister, Annie Mae Ray, who preceded him in death, and the sustaining bond of close family who remained to cherish his memory. He was survived by his devoted companion, Sally Lynn of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, who stood by him in his later years, as well as by his daughters, Melissa Ray of Columbia, Tennessee, and Allison Ray of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and his son, Gregory Ray of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. His legacy was carried forward with love by his grandchild, Shawna McCullum, and his sister, Agusta Wallace of Lawrenceburg. To those who knew him well, Leon was remembered as a man of resilience and quiet strength, whose life reflected both the challenges of his time and the enduring bonds of family that remained at the heart of all he held dear.
