Bio

HELLBUSCH, EDWARD O.—Edward O. Hellbusch was born to Oscar William Hellbusch and Mary Marie Belitz on Aug. 14, 1927, at Belgrade. He passed away on July 10, 2001, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva at the age of 73 year, 10 months and 26 days. He was one of three children in the family. Ed, as he was called by family and friends, was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at Prince of Peace Church at Timer Creek on Sept. 4, 1927, and was confirmed at the same church on June 14, 1942. His confirmation Bible verse was Revelation 3:20. Ed attended and graduated from Belgrade High School with the class of 1945. Ed was married in the same church of his baptism to Barbara Jean Cox of Cedar Rapids, on Jan. 11, 1950, and to them two children were born. Ed stopped farming for himself in 1956 and moved to Lincoln and did construction work until 1957, when he returned to farm labor. He moved to Fillmore county in 1960, where he has lived since that time working on the farm until his health failed him in 1994 and 1995. Even though Ed spent more years farming for the other guy than he did for himself, he enjoyed it and took great pride in his work. He liked to brag that he had the straightest corn rows in Fillmore county and he really didn’t mind that they were along the hi-way for everyone to see. He also took great pleasure and satisfaction out of applying nicknames to special people in his life. “Budder,” “Boomer”, “Snookie,” and “Peanut” were tags that he place on those he cared for. Then there were “Poops” and “Butch” and his own “Ole Ed.” In his youth he was always known in the Belgrade area as “Sonny.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary Hellbusch. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter Sandi Campbell and husband, Jim; his son Randy and wife, Shelly; four grandchildren, Jeremy Joe Hellbusch, Michelle Jean Peters, Jeff Edward Hellbusch, and Jodi Elizabeth Hellbusch. He is also survived by two sisters, Lucille Ahlers and husband, Raymond, and Eileen Bills and husband, Kenneth; five nephews and four nieces. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2001, from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva, with Rev. Michael Osberg officiating. Lori Loontjer accompanied the congregational hymns of “Amazing Grace” and “Precious Lord, Take My hand” and “I was There to Hear Your Borning Cry.” Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
