Bio
Sacker Nathaniel served in the Lochapoka Macon Alabama Home Guard CSA. SACKER NATHANIEL DUBBERLEY (1822-1891) Sacker Nathaniel Dubberley was born April 17, 1822, Putnam County, Georgia to parents Allen Dubberley and Harriet Dubberley (nee Walker). Sacker's paternal grandparents were Sacker Dubberly and Laney Dubberley (nee Allen) of Craven County, North Carolina. His maternal grandparents were Nathaniel L. Walker and Phoebe Walker (nee Browning). In the early 1800's Sacker accompanied his parents and other siblings to Macon County, Alabama. He married Elizabeth Ann Awtry October 24, 1848, in Macon County, Alabama. Ann was the daughter of John Baptiste Awtry and Martha Awtry (nee Moore). Sacker and Ann had eight known children all born in Alabama: Amanda Inez Rea (m. Frederick Ward Rea), Mary J. Dubberley (remained single), John Allen Dubberley (m. L. D. Bufford), Millard Filmore Dubberley (m. Sarah Mariah Green), Emma Clay Dubberley (m. William Otis Eckles), James Henry Stonewall Jackson (Toney) Dubberley (m. Musie Lenora Moore), Nathaniel Webster Dubberly (m. 1st Lula Ophelia Wright, m. 2nd Emma L. Dawson), Harriet Dubberly. Children Amanda, John Allen, and Harriet remained in Alabama. Children Millard Filmore, Emma Clay, James Henry (Toney), and Nathaniel Webster moved to Collin County,Texas. James Henry later moved to Little River County, Arkansas. It is believed that their daughter Mary may have also moved to Texas. S. N. Dubberly, Pvt., Alabama Militia, appears in a list of Confederate prisoners of War captured by 1st Div. Cav. Corps, M. D. M. on April 16, 1865, in Opelika. He was transported to a military prison in Macon, Georgia. Sacker would have been about 43 at the time. According to his granddaughter, Cliffie Dubberley Ray, Sacker was taken prisoner near Vaughan's Mill in Macon County, Alabama, a site about 20 miles from Opelika. Mrs. Ray also stated that "Sacher Nathaniel Dubberley's widow, Mrs. Anne E Dubberley drew a pension through Lee County before and during 1898 to 1901." Sacker Dubberley died December 6, 1891, Macon County, Alabama preceding his wife, Ann, in death by about 10 years. They had been married for 44 years. Both are buried in Armstrong Methodist Church Cemetery, Macon County, Alabama.
