Herald Coaster, March 1, 1959: Final rites for Mrs. Emilie Goetzel, 88, of Needville, were held Thursday afternoon from the Beasley E&R Church, with Rev. Robert Mohr officiating. Mrs. Goetzel came to this country in 1892 from Germany. She moved to Fort Bend County from New Braunfels in 1923. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Antonia Engelhardt of Beasley; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Donald Mueck, Leeland Mueck, Bealas, Wesley Dabelgott, Clarence Kaack, and Jessee Heinecke. Interment was held in the E&R Cemetery in Beasley under the direction of Garmany-Janca Funeral Home. ∼ Emilie immigrated to the United States with her father, brother, Julius, and her daughter, Antonia, in 1891. Her daughter's baptism record gives no name for Antonia's father. Whether error by record keepers or intentional, at least one of the passenger lists indicates she was the wife of her brother, Julius. Likewise, the 1900 census indicates she is the wife of her brother, Oscar. These are errors. She first married in 1905 to widower, Heinrich Willms, and after his death to Hugo Goetzel in 1911. She applied for citizenship at the age of 84 years in 1955.
