Bottum, Robert O. Lincoln Journal Star Tuesday, April 3, 2012 2:30 am Robert O. Bottum, passed away March 28, 2012 surrounded by his family. Born in Benedict to Frank and Edith (Query) Bottum on December 8, 1923, he was the oldest of three children. His family lived in several Nebraska communities before he graduated high school in St. Edward in 1941. He proudly served as a naval pilot during W.W.II. After earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he worked at Elgin Watch and Dell Electronics. Most of his professional career was spent as a senior design engineer for Cushman Motor Works in Lincoln and Outboard Marine in Florida. Later he worked for Kohler's Small Engine Division in Wisconsin. Returning to Nebraska, he worked for Exmark before retiring. During retirement, he became a proficient computer geek, enjoyed ballroom dancing, golfing, bowling and family get-togethers. He was a long-time Husker football fan, and all-around sports enthusiast, avid garage car mechanic and TeamMate participant. Member and former deacon of Eastridge Presbyterian Church. Survivors: wife, Carol; daughters, Janet Briggs of Mesa, Ariz., Kristi Lounsbury and husband Loren of Lincoln. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Heusman and husband Ross of Lincoln, Ryan Robert Suhr and wife Michelle of Chicago. Great-granddaughter, Ava Ryann Heusman of Lincoln. Step-children: Neal Suess and wife Jo and family of Columbus, Diane Schmit and husband Brad and family of Olathe, Kan. Step-grandchildren: including Jonah Lounsbury and wife Sarah and daughter Ella of Lincoln, Calli Lounsbury of Lincoln, and several other families. Step-brothers and sisters and their families, nieces, nephews, cousins. Proceeded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, parents, brother Marvin, sister Donna. Honorary pallbearers: Cushman's Tuesday Lunch Bunch. Memorials to Eastridge Presbyterian Church, Teammates.
