Texas Coaster, August 31, 1928: Adolph Strempel, aged 9, was smothered to death Tuesday afternoon while playing in a wagon load of cotton. Adolph was the only son of H.A. Strempel, a tenant farmer living on the G.W. Schwartz place near Rosenberg. The little fellow had been playing on the ground and on one of the wagons of his father. When it came time for Mr. Strempel to move his wagon up to the gin, the boy was found standing head first in a hole he had dug in the cotton. It is presumed he dug the hole, fell in it, and smothered before he could make an outcry.
