Wayne Darrell Hoppie, age 73, returned home to his Heavenly Father, Monday, February 20th, 2012 after a long battle with cancer and other health ailments. At his passing, he was surrounded by his wife, Judy Hoppie and their six children, Kelly McNitt, Kimberly Hoppie, Pamela Johnson, Craig Hoppie, Daniel Hoppie and Jeffrey Hoppie. Along with his wife and children he is survived by his brother Delroy Hoppie, and his sister Jillyn Haymore. As the patriarch of his family, he was adored and honored by his 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Florence Hoppie, his brother Jewell Hoppie and his sister, Ortell Montgomery. Wayne served an honorable mission to the Eastern States where his testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith was strengthened by participating in the Hill Cumorah Pageant. Upon returning home he received a Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University where he met his sweetheart of fifty plus years. They were married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on May 31st, 1961. Wayne was a giver and gave with his whole-heart. Wayne could find no happier place than spending time with his family. He loved a good ballgame, especially those that involved his children. He was a tireless worker both in business and church service All who knew Wayne were touched by his infectious personality and love of the Savior. While he will be greatly missed in mortality, we know that he was welcomed with open arms into the spirit world. The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 23rd at 1:00 pm at the Central LDS Ward Chapel, 506 South 200 East. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from 6-8 pm at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City and a viewing will be held on Thursday at the church from 12 Noon to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
