Bio

She was the daughter of John Ransom & Nancy (Hurst) Day. She grew to adulthood attending the nearby one room log school and the Big Spring Primitive Baptist Church. She married a neighbor boy, Levi Hurst, about 1857 in Claiborne County,Tennessee. They were the parents of two boys when Levi marched off to war as a Confederate. (Co C, Day's 12th Battalion, Tenn. Cav.) He was killed at the Battle of Chicamauga, 21 Sept 1863. She never remarried, just raised her boys there on the home place. She died sometime after the 1880 census. Her two sons, Alvis C. & Wiley B. pictured at right.
