Elzie Vera (Hill) McCrory, born January 10, 1912, in Bardwell, Texas and resident of Purdon, Texas for many years, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012. At the age of 100, she was currently the oldest resident at Heritage Oaks-West Nursing Center. Elzie was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Andrew Hill and Martha Ann (Brown) Hill, nine brothers and sisters, husband, Johnie McCrory, daughter, Doris Ann, and son, Johnie, Jr., daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Farmer) McCrory, and grandson, Kevin McCrory. She is survived by her son, Oscar, of Purdon, and daughter, Nancy Armstrong and her husband, Strain Armstrong, of Liberty Hill, three grandchildren, Mike McCrory, Jenifer (Blackmon) and Josh Armstrong and five great grandchildren, Brett, Morgan, and Jason McCrory and Brody and Bailey Blackmon, great-great granddaughter Kinley McCrory and a host of nephews and nieces. Elzie was a long time member of the Purdon Baptist Church. She was a retired state employee having worked for many years at the former Corsicana State Home. She had also been an occasional seasonal worker at the Collin Street Bakery. Visitation will be at Corley Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 4:00 – 6:00 PM and a graveside service will held Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Pattison Cemetery, Emhouse, Texas, with Pastor Dan Layne officiating. Pall bearers will be her son, Oscar, son-in-law, Strain Armstrong, grandsons, Mike McCrory, and Josh Armstrong, grandson-in-law, Tom Blackmon, and great grandsons, Brett and Jason McCrory and Brody Blackmon. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Heritage Oaks-West Nursing Center and a very special thanks to "the card lady", Genell Permenter, for all those sweet, up-lifting cards she has sent so religiously every week of Elzie's approximate five year convalescence. Memorials may be made to the Pattison Cemetery Association in care of Jane Harris at 8265 NWCR 1250, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
