Bio

Layne Homer Anderson, son of Homer and Verna May (Hoeppner) Anderson, was born January 15, 1944 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Layne died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, Nebraska. Layne and his family moved to Wausa area from Omaha in 1946. He attended country schools and then graduated from Wausa High School in 1962. He was active in 4-H and enjoyed riding horses in the Riding Viking 4-H Club. Layne enlisted with the United States Navy in December 1963. Layne married his high school sweetheart LaVonne Anderson on September 26, 1965, at the Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. The couple made their first home at Great Lakes Navel Base in Waukegan, Illinois. In November of 1966 he was deployed to serve overseas during the Vietnam War. Their first daughter, Michelle was born in May 1967 but he did not get to see her until his return home in October of 1967. When he received his Honorable Discharge, he brought his young family to live in Norfolk and he worked for Norfolk Livestock Market as a bookkeeper. The family later returned to Wausa to live on a farm north of town. They moved to their present farm in Oct. 1976, where they have lived and farmed until his death. Through these years they were blessed with 3 more children. During these years of farming he also operated L & L's Mr. G's in Wausa, from 1983 to 1989. He worked at Mid-AM Cheese plant in Hartington, Nebraska until his health started to decline. Layne was a lifetime member of Thabor Lutheran Church, having been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in his early years. He was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Layne enjoyed being outside on the farm, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and camping prior to his illness. Layne's passion was farming and having grandchildren enjoy the farm as much as he did. Layne died on March 22, 2012 at Osmond General Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with emphysema and lung cancer. His memory and spirit will live in the hearts of his family; and all who knew him will dearly miss Layne. Layne is survived by his wife of over 46 years, LaVonne Anderson of Wausa; daughters, Michelle (Brad) Siedel of Lincoln, Lori (Doug) Munter of Wausa, Nebraska, and Dawn (Jon) Baue of Wausa, Nebraska; son, Michael (Stephanie) Anderson of Wausa, Nebraska; grandchildren: Trevor and Taylor Boshart, Austin, Taylor and Carter Siedel; Devon, Tara, Drew, Alexis, and Jake Munter; Ethan, Tyler, Colton, and Ashton Baue; and Nole Anderson; sister, Bev Wrick; brothers, Tim (LaJean) Anderson, and Chuck (Garnet) Anderson, all of Wausa, Nebraska; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alton and DeEtta Anderson; sisters–in-law and brothers-in-law, Fred (Barb Munson) Anderson of Norfolk, Randy (Jeanie) Anderson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Denny (Linda) Mayo of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, as well as many nephews and nieces.
