MIDLAND -- Joe E. Hood, 86, a retired cowboy, died Tuesday, July 27, 1993, at Rockwood Manor Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Hood was born in Jester, Okla., was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist. Survivors: Great niece, Sherry Smith of Midland; brother Charlie Hood of Arizona; sister, Stella Elsie Hood Rains of Arlington.(The Odessa American, Wed, Jul 28, 1993 ·Page 11) Joseph Evan "Joe" Hood was born in Oklahoma. He was the 10th child of 12 born to Isaac Parker Hood. Joe's mother Elenor Eliza "Ellen" Spencer Hood was Isaac's 3rd wife and shared 6 children with Isaac. The family migrated to Texas and after serving in World war II Joe settled in Belton, Bell County TX and had a home on an acre plot of his older brother John Robertson "Bob" Hood's 14 acre land for many years. After a falling out between the two Joe moved to the community of Dog Ridge in Belton TX. After several years Joe then went to live with his nephew in Midland TX where he lived out the remainder of his days and is now buried. Joe was always ready for a laugh and while he never married he enjoyed spending time with his nephew and great nieces and nephews fishing or having a chocolate shake! He is dearly missed and never forgotten.
