Ruby Doris Wayne Campsey Patterson, was born on Oct. 11, 1924, to Tom and Mitty Jewel Campsey in Goodlett, Texas. She went to join her lord on March 15, 2012, while surrounded by her loving family and close friends, in her own home. While working for Borden Dairy Co., in Lubbock, Texas, she met the love of her life, Purl Patterson. They were married on Feb. 19, 1943 at Central Baptist Church. Shortly after they were married; Purl was drafted into the army. Doris worked as a waitress in a local cafe, until she moved to Quanah, Texas with her mother and father to live on the XIT Ranch. The trip there took three days, because military personnel had priority. One soldier relinquished his seat so she could get home. She gave birth to her first child while there. After Purl was discharged from the army, they returned to Lubbock, to raise a family. While there, the family was blessed with four more children. The family relocated to Farmington, New Mexico in 1953. While there, she was employed as a babysitter for the former Dallas Cowboys player, Ralph Neely. In the summer of 1958, the family moved to Flora Vista, New Mexico, where they experienced country living, as she had while growing up. The family attended Flora Vista Baptist Church, where she served as secretary. During the fall, Doris and the children would pick apples to earn Christmas money. Doris was renowned for her apple butter, and apple pie. She also sewed dresses for her daughters and shirts for her sons. Sewing and baking were things she enjoyed. The family moved to Casper in 1963. They joined Boyd Avenue Baptist Church. Doris did in home child care, and alterations for Rainbow Cleaners. Activities for the church included, Sunday School secretary, cooking for Wednesday night dinners, participating in Vacation Bible School, and cooking for summer church camp. One of the more enjoyable times, was Friday Youth Night, where she helped with the music, and the hot dog preparation. After the children were grown, she often went with Purl on many out of town jobs. They were often accompanied by grandchildren. Doris is survived by her children Janette and Patrick Jones of San Luis Obispo, California, Danny Patterson of Casper, Bill and Betty Patterson of Midland, Texas, Mitty Young of Mills, Patricia and John of Casper, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, and her sister Mattie Thomas of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband Purl Patterson, her parents, her brother, and her grandson Johnny.
