Bio

March 22, 2012 Kathy Jo Thompson, 59 of Broken Bow, surrounded by her children, peacefully went to live with her heavenly father Wednesday, March 14, 2012 after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. She was bom Nov. 12, 1952, in Broken Bow to Donald and Mahala Thompson. The second of four children, she graduated from McPherson County High School in 197l. She attended Kearney State College, graduating with a bachelor of arts in education in 1976. She taugbt at several small schools in the Sandhills region of Nebraska. In the 1980s, she settled in the North Platte region where she was blessed with four children, Brooke, Michael, Kenneth and Eve. Kathy and her family stayed in Central Nebraska while she completed her degree in school psychology from the University of Nebraska Kearney. Settling in Wichita Kan., she became a nationally certified school psychologist. Kathy had many leadership callings in the LDS church in Kansas as well as Nebraska. Her love above all was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Cbrist, and her family. Her second loves involved teaching music and painting, She sacrificed many opportunities to devote care and time for her family and love ones. In 2007, she was diagnosed with cancer and returned to Nebraska, remaining active within her church and devoted to her family until her passing. Her heart and mind truly were devoted to the service of others. Kathy is survived by her daughters, Brooke Daake, (husband Doug) Eve Conner, (husband Jacob); granddaughters, Emylee and Jusyka; sons, Michael D. Crawford, (wife, Megan), Kenneth Crawford (fiance Melissa); grandsons, Zakary and Shaun; granddaughter, Kaytee; brother, James Thompson; sisters, Joyce Rehnelt and Judy Cotfack (husband Gene), as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Thompson; mother, Mahala Amos and stepfather, Kenneth Amos. She was loved by many and will be dearly misssd by all whom she has touched. Fnneral services were Monday, March 19,2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later time. Iverson Memorial Chapel of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements. Published in Custer County Chief, March 22, 2012
