Sylvester R. Kovar, 92, of David City, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Butler County Healthcare Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with the Rev. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Visitation will be 3-6:30 p.m. Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, at Kracl Funeral Chapel. Committal will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in David City. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Lunch will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Sylvester was born Dec. 30, 1919, in David City, to Frank A. and Mary (Koutny) Kovar. He attended school through the eight grade. From 1942-45, he was stationed in New Guinea with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Sylvester lived and farmed near David City his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and VFW Post #5814 of David City. Sylvester never married and is survived by nieces and nephews, Beverly Wulfekuhl, of Elkhorn, Greta Kovar, of Staplehurst, Donald (Shirley) Kovar, of Raymond, Steve (Evelyn) Kovar, of Columbus, Sherie (Marvin) Albert, of Schuyler; and his caretaker, Jerome (Patricia) Andel of David City. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Gail Chmiel, of Arlington, Texas, Alan Kovar, of Brainard, Bradley Wulfekuhl, of Whittier, Calif., Greg Wulfekuhl, of Elkhorn, Doug Wulfekuhl, of Millard, Debbie Dossard, of Lincoln, and Mike Kovar of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Emanuel, Fred, Frank and Raymond Kovar; an infant sister; nephew and niece, Lawrence and Norma Jean Kovar; and two nephews, David Kovar and Keith Wulfekuhl. Kracl Funeral Chapel of David City in charge of these arrangements.
