Hillis F. Holden 87,of Simms, Texas died Friday March 26,2004 in a Mount Pleasant, Texas hospital. Mr. Holden was born March 28,1916 in DeKalb, Texas. He was a timber cutter, farmer, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Holden of Simms; one son, Hillis F. Holden Jr. of Simms; one stepdaughter, Shirley Bowles of Texarkana; four grandchildren, Deborah Carter of DeKalb; Dennis Holden of Ashdown, Ark; Zandra Rhyne of Naples, Texas; and Monica Sanford of New Boston; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Sand Hill Cemetery, Simms, with the Rev. John Ratliff officiating, under direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home. Texarkana Daily Gazette, March 28,2004.
