Bio

Florence Ramona Peterson Garner, 87, of Rupert, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Countryside Care and Rehabilitation. Ramona was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Burley, Idaho, to John Fredrick and Florence Valera Frost Peterson. She graduated from Burley High School, then attended business college. During World War II, she worked at Fort Douglas for two years, then returned to Burley to work for the city of Burley. Ramona married Dale B. Garner on Jan. 20, 1956, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She and Dale purchased the Bell Motel in Rupert, which they operated for 23 years. In 1977, they moved from town to farm, which they did until Dale's death in 2001. Ramona was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various church positions. Ramona enjoyed sewing and handwork. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by three children, Peggy (Clark) Millard of Meridian, Idaho, Tammy (Melvin) Day of Rupert and Bill (Jessica) Garner of Middleton, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Jeff Millard of Meridian, Chris (Heather Vodros) Day of Rupert, Heather (TJ) Ramsey of Rupert, Tyler Garner of Honolulu, Hawaii, Amanda Garner of Boise, and Brandon Garner and Chase Garner, both of Middleton; five great-grandchildren; brother, Len Peterson of Ashfork, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Page Crandall of Rupert; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Rupert LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 26 S. 100 W., with Bishop Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery. Viewing will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Hansen Mortuary, 710 Sixth St. in Rupert, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Countryside Care and Rehabilitation staff for the compassionate care they gave to our mother and grandmother.
