Daily Register Posted Mar 06, 2012 CAHOKIA, ILL. — Sarah A. Gold, 99, Cahokia, formerly of Carrier Mills, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the home of her sister in Cahokia, surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 25, 1912, in Hammond to the late Charles Behen and Hazel Drew Behen. She was married to Paul Gold from April 5, 1940, until his death on Feb. 12, 1996. She was a very kind, gentle, easygoing lady with a sense of humor and strong spirit who loved God and her family. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, also enjoying reading, traveling, food, gardening and attending church. She is survived by two sisters; two nieces; two nephews; and many other nieces, nephews and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, William Behen; and a niece, Carle Smith. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time at noon Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Carrier Mills. ________________________ Sarah A. Gold (1912 - 2012) Sarah A. Gold, nee Behen, 99, of Cahokia, Ill., formerly of Carrier Mills, Ill., born on Dec. 25, 1912, in Hammond, Ill., passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at home with her family by her side. As a child, she grew up in Tamms, Ill., and moved to Cahokia in 1928, where she later met and married her husband of 55 years, Paul Gold, on April 5, 1940. They lived most of their married life in Carrier Mills, Ill., where she was a devoted wife and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, traveling, food, eating out, gardening and attending church. She was a very kind, gentle, easy going lady with a sense of humor and strong spirit. She loved life, God, and her family. In her 80s, she moved as a widow to Scottsdale, Ariz., and Highlands Ranch, Colo., before returning to Cahokia to live out her life with her sister and niece for the past eight years. Her loving nature will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Charles and Pearl, nee Gilbert, Behen; birth mother, Hazel, nee Drew, Behen-Schroeder; her beloved husband, Paul Gold; brother, William Behen; and niece, Carla Smith. Surviving are her two sisters; two nieces; two nephews; and many other nieces, nephews and loving friends. Visitation: Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, Ill. Funeral: Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery, Carrier Mills, Ill.
