YOAKUM -- Mrs. Steve (Mary) Janik Sr., 81, a former Yoakum resident, who lived in Wharton, died at 3 a.m. on Friday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 8:45 a.m. on Monday from Buffington Funeral Home Chapel and at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. John Matocha officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Mrs. Janik was born on May 15, 1883, in Lavaca County. Survivors include five sons, Steve of Austin, Frank of Yoakum, Henry and Joe of Lane City, and Daniel of Wharton; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Hanzelka of Yoakum, Mrs. Agnes Smolik of Lane City, Mrs. Annie Nozisek [Mozisek?] of Hallettsville, Mrs. Rose Hill of Boneville, Missouri, and Mrs. Christina Dwyer of El Paso; three brothers and a sister; 51 grandchildren; and 33 grandchildren. Victoria Advocate, Saturday, July 18, 1964. Funeral services were held in Yoakum at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 1964, for Mrs. Steve Janik Sr. with the Rev. John Matocha officiating at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Janik a former Yoakum resident who lived in Wharton recently, passed away at Huth Memorial Hospital, Yoakum, at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 1964, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 11 days. Mrs. Janik, nee Mary Jalufka, was born in Lavaca County, near Hallettsville, on May 18, 1883, and was a retired resident of the area. She was the daughter of Ignac and Johanna (Jalufka) Jalufka and was married to Steve Janik Sr., who preceded her in death on November 1, 1963. Her parents; two brothers, Isidor and Frank Jalufka; and a sister, Agnes Jalufka, also preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons, Steve Janik of Austin, Frank Janik of Yoakum, Henry and Joe Janik of Lane City, and Daniel Janik of Wharton; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Hanzelka of Yoakum, Mrs. Agnes Smolik of Lane City, Mrs. Annie Mozisek of Hallettsville, Mrs. Rose Hill of Bonneville, Missouri, and Mrs. Christian Dwyer of El Paso; three brothers, Louis and August Jalufka of Shiner, and Ignac Jalufka of Moulton; one sister, Mrs. Veronica Petru of Lane City; 51 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Among relatives from Shiner attending the last rites were Louis Jalufka and daughter, Mrs. George (Janie) Spann; and August Jalufka and sons, Florian and Frank Jalufka, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Janik, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Janik, Mr. and Mrs. Ladik Mikes, and Miss Albina and Adolph Janik.
